JAMB release UTME results, says this year’s better
Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, the Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), on Friday in Abuja warned candidates against “Internet fraudsters who are telling them they can upgrade their results’’.
At a news conference called to announce the 2013 UTME results, Ojerinde said candidates should ignore such advice.
“Information reaching JAMB shows Internet fraudsters are already telling candidates that their results could be upgraded in one form or the other.
“This is pure deceit; the public and candidates are hereby advised to disregard these fraudsters since they do not have access to our data.,’’ he said.
Ojerinde said that this years results were better than the 2012 edition.
“The general performance of candidates in this year’s examination shows remarkable improvement compared with last year,’’ he said, adding that a total of 704,622 candidates scored between 200 and 249 marks. He said another 571,298 scored between 170 and 199 marks, while 103,489 recorded between 160 and 169 points.
The registrar also said 33,115 candidates had between 250 and 269 points, while 628 students posted between 270 and 299 marks.
Only 10 candidates scored above 300 marks, he added.
Ojerinde said that after thorough processing of answer scripts of the candidates, the board discovered some forms of malpractice, adding that it had withheld 12,110 results for possible disciplinary action.
“The results of 68,309 candidates from various centres are undergoing further screening to ascertain the culpability of 12,110 candidates’ results.
“ Last year, we had cases of specially-designed slippers otherwise tagged “ Magic Slippers’’ which desperate candidates used to perpetrate malpractice.
“ This year witnessed a new turn as candidates wore long sleeves shirts that bore imprint of prepared answers, the vigilant eyes of my staff caught three of such T-shirts,’’ he said.
“About 40,692 candidates’ results were invalid due to either multiple shading or no shading at all. After processing all the results, the board also discovered that about 47,974 candidates were absent.’’
The registrar assured the candidates that their results could be accessed on the JAMB Website: www.myjambresult.com using their registration numbers.
`Let me once again state that candidates are allowed to change their choices of institutions and courses once only; this change has to be effected within two weeks from today.
Ojerinde said the Computer Based Test (CBT) was scheduled to take place from May 18 to June 1 and appealed to candidates to reprint their e-registration slips afresh to further ascertain their CBT centres.
“This, of course, is the first UTME we are conducting in three modes, PPT, DBT and CBT.
The registrar said the breakdown of application by institution shows that the universities had the highest number of applicants of 1,670,833, polytechnics 28,977, colleges of education 28,445 and innovative enterprise institutes, 25.
